Every day is a tightrope walk of tasks, passion, and self-care for me. As dawn breaks, my husband gets up to walk our dog, Blu, and I head off to the gym. When I come home, I fix myself a pot of tea and begin listening to the chime of emails to start my day. Juggling four email accounts, I prioritize and strategize my day’s agenda.
Writing isn’t just a task; it’s a commitment to authenticity and clarity. Every word I pen is weighed with precision, ensuring that I communicate concepts accurately. I often find myself immersed in research, double-checking facts and definitions. It’s a temptation: the idea of secluding myself in the tranquil mountains, devoid of internet distractions, writing with sheer abandon. But the writer in me yearns for immediacy; the urge to validate a concept instantly rather than earmark it for later.
While many picture an author’s life to be filled with endless hours of writing, my reality is slightly different. I balance my passion for writing with my responsibilities as a professor and my professional duties as a claims consultant. Each role demands focus, commitment, and energy.
Yet, a looming challenge for me is my battle with fatigue, a result of my MS diagnosis in 2010. It’s not merely physical tiredness; it’s a profound exhaustion that can be both mentally and emotionally taxing. But I’ve never been one to let challenges dictate the terms of my life. While I might not have the luxury of working round the clock, I ensure that the 4-5 hours I dedicate daily are potent with productivity. When fatigue beckons, I heed its call by taking naps. It’s my body’s way of forcing me to slow down, and I’ve learned to…if not embrace it… then live with it.
Life, with all its intricacies, has taught me the importance of balance. It’s about blending passion with patience, ambition with rest, and challenges with resilience. Every day is a testament to my journey, a dance of diligence and determination. And as each day ends, I’m reminded of the power of perseverance and the beauty of a life lived with purpose.
